Stress and anxiety levels are continually increasing worldwide, leading many people to search for new and innovative answers to their problems. Well, here’s the secret – Kundalini yoga is a profoundly effective practice for stress and anxiety reduction for women and men! The beauty of this powerful practice is that it is accessible to all people and has zero side effects.
If you are ready to make changes in your life and improve your mental health, yoga can take you there! In this article, we will explore the power of kundalini yoga for your mental health. So, let’s dive in!
How Yoga Reduces Stress and Anxiety
Yoga is a unique practice that targets transformative healing on all levels of the body, mind, and soul. As you move your body through various poses and synchronize each movement with the breath, your nervous system gradually begins to shift and regulate, resulting in a deep sense of ease and inner peace from within. Yoga was traditionally aimed at supporting the pursuit of enlightenment and spiritual awakening, but these practices are also commonly used to improve well being and overall health.
Stress and anxiety keep your body stuck in “fight or flight” mode, in which your nervous system is always on alert in a mode called the sympathetic nervous system. Over time, this constant stress state can lead to serious physical health issues. Yoga practice directly helps your nervous system switch out of this mode and into “rest and digest” mode, also known as the parasympathetic nervous system mode, shifting your entire body into a state of transformative healing.
The Benefits of Strength & Calm Yoga for Stress and Anxiety
Regular Strength & Calm yoga practice for women & men can also take this practice even deeper. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul, healing and inner transformation. Generic yoga classes are excellent for improving your mental health, but Strength & Calm is uniquely powerful because it emphasizes the spiritual components of yoga – truly accessing the healing capacity you have within.
There are no levels in Strength & Calm yoga, making this practice accessible to complete beginners and advanced yoga students alike! Anyone can engage in this powerful practice. Unlike other yoga styles, there is no set sequence or flow that you have to keep up with. You can make your kundalini yoga practice as intense or as easy as you need it to be by making minor modifications and doing what feels right for your body.
Strength & Calm yoga for Stress Relief: The Self-Care Breathing Kriya
There are many different kundalini yoga practices for stress and anxiety relief for women. In a Strength & Calm yoga class, you can dive deeper into these practices and explore the many benefits they have to offer. One such potent kundalini yoga practice is the self-care breathing kriya. This kriya practice helps you clear stress out of your mind and renew your inner state from within. See below for the steps to begin to practice on your own!
Self-Care Breathing Kriya Steps
• To begin, settle into a comfortable seated position using a cushion underneath you or a comfortable chair. Gently straighten and lengthen your spine in this position.
• Open your mouth into a small circle as if you are trying to drink through a straw.
• Then, place your left hand over your heart and your right hand on top of it.
• Gently close your eyes as you breathe deeply through your mouth while focusing your awareness on your heart center.
• Continue this practice for approximately 5 minutes.
• After the 5 minutes of this breathing technique, begin to repeat out loud the word “Peace” three times.
• Then repeat this mantra 3 times, but this time say, “I am Peace.”
• Finally, repeat 3 times the mantra, “I take Peace wherever I go.”
• To complete this kriya, slowly release your hands down and open your eyes.
Whenever you need to reset from within and clear the stress and anxiety from your mind, just try this simple self-care breathing kriya and feel the powerful impact these practices can have on your entire being!
